Behind the nut blog

About Me

My name is Danielle, and in 2008 I co-founded a London-based software company. We built bespoke web-based applications for different companies with a wide variety of requirements. I worked as a project manager and also did some front end development using html & css. Every new client specification meant a new and exciting challenge - which also had it's doses of stresses and strains - but it was an amazing opportunity to really test the limits of what we could do.

The Blog

The main purpose of this blog is to share my passion for programming and to get more people coding! In 2016 (this year) I will start working on an app for the recruitment industry, and I will be sharing my progress with you as I go along.

Back in the 1950's, when FORTRAN was pretty much the only option, and right up until the 1980's, programming was pretty much a closed world - accessible mainly to academics, engineers, mathematicians. But all that has changed quite drastically in recent history, thanks to the internet!

Open-source programming languages have (as the name suggests) opened up the market considerably. Languages such as Ruby, JavaScript, Python & php were created in the late 1980's and the 1990's, and now pretty much everything we use is run by apps!

In this field you never stop learning! And there really are no limits to where it can go and what you can do!

Learn to Code

My company has since moved away from developing software and is now focussed primarily on teaching people to code. My business partner has been coding since his school days (back in the 90's), and he is the main tutor for the video tutorials. We have tested them out on YouTube and there has been an overwhelmingly positive response! Once our courses have been launched, I will be sharing them via the blog also.

Having worked mainly on the managerial side of programming, my interest in coding was piqued in 2012 when I did a Maths course in the evenings. I started learning Ruby and Python (and brushed up on my html & css). That spurred me on to learn JavaScript. Never one to do things by halves, my first project was to create a binary search algorithm!

Tech Recruitment

Throughout the years working in the industry, and with programmers, I have amassed a great deal of knowledge. I want to share my knowledge and experience with companies that need tech talent, but that don't necessarily understand the technology themselves. Or perhaps you don't have the time to sift through CV's and need a specialist to do that for you. Having also worked in recruitment for a time, I am well-placed to offer a consultative recruitment service. Check me out on LinkedIn or contact me via my website for more details.

What Else to Expect

I also blog about career development, tech news, and the odd tech-related TV show (such as 'Mr. Robot'). If you follow me on twitter, you will know that I am a keen rower, but I will not bore you with that on here!

I hope you enjoy the blog!
